Start to Deep Learn for Computer Vision
27-05-2019 ::

Organizer: EAVISE research group (KU Leuven)

The EAVISE research group (KU Leuven) is organizing a full-day hands-on workshop entitled Start to Deep Learn for Computer Vision. The purpose of this workshop is to introduce companies to Deep Learning for image interpretation. After a short theoretical introduction, the participants will learn to train deep learning models themselves, and improve and evaluate their performance. In this way the participants get an idea of the possibilities (and limitations) of Deep Learning, and get to know the most important ingredients that lead to an accurate model. Furthermore, the influence of the amount of training data, hyperparameter tuning, concepts such as transfer learning and the conversion of a classification model to object detection will also be covered. For this workshop, some knowledge of programming in any language is desirable (concepts such as variables, functions). The workshops are built around the DIGITS environment and use Jupyter Notebooks and Python. The working language of the workshop is Dutch or English depending on the audience.

This workshop will take place at KU Leuven - Campus De Nayer:

This workshop will take a whole day, with a sandwich lunch during the afternoon. The program looks like this:

  • 9:00 am: Registration and welcome with coffee
  • 9.30 am: Start of workshop: theoretical short introduction of Deep Learning
  • 10.00 am: First hands-on session on image classification:
                * Training deep learning models
                * Deploying models
                * Accuracy metrics and performance evaluation

  • 12.30 pm: Lunch break
  • 1:00 pm: Second hands-on session on object detection:
                * Improving the accuracy
                * Transfer learning
                * Object detection with classification backbones
               * Object detection through DetectNet

  • 4:00 pm: End
Participation in this workshop costs 200 euros (excl. VAT) for a single seat (one person per computer).

Companies can also register a duo seat for 300 euros (excl. VAT), with two people collaborate on the same device. For organizational reasons, the number of computers is limited to 16 per workshop, according to the first-come first-serve principle. After this the registration form will be closed.
