Embedded Firmware Architect

The NXP Semiconductors Product Line Personal Health, headquartered in Leuven, develops application specific ICs for use in Hearing Aids and Implants, Hearables and Personal Health monitoring applications.  Our team work on the software product (+ SDK) development in the product line Personal Health - Emerging Business unit. Products (System-on-Chip) employ ultra-low-power, Blue Tooth Low-Energy (BLE) technologies. Target applications: hearing aids, wearables, IOT.  Following the success of our Product Line, we are expanding our team and are looking for a senior firmware architect embedded. 


  • Responsible for architecture, design, development of software/firmware for ultra-low power Bluetooth Low Energy (Smart) chipsets targeting hearable (truly wireless earbuds) applications.
  • You perform your architecture work as part of a larger architecture team (analog hardware, digital hardware, firmware and software. You determine the required HW/SW interfaces and contribute to the definition of the HW/SW in close consultation with the IC architect and hardware experts
  • Provide technical leadership through participation in every phase of a project, from requirements, architecture, design, coding, unit testing, integration, maintenance and reviews. Provide technical guidance to other team members and mentor new team members.
  • On-time delivery with high quality and adherence to corporate processes and procedures.
  • Work closely with hardware and software teams and Systems, Applications and Test teams on task assignments, integration and system validation.

Your Profile

  • Masters in EE, CS or related disciplines with 10+ years of experience in real-time embedded software/firmware development (to include 3-5 years architectural design)
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and programming proficiency using C and/or assembly language.
  • Experience of Bluetooth Low Energy (Smart) and/or other wireless networking standards (WiFi, Zig BEE) is a plus.
  • Good coordination and problem solving skills and ability to meet tough goals under pressure
  • Leadership capabilities to drive a small team (4-8 engineers)
  • Quality minded with an eye of improvements in way of working
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English
  • Experience in the IC development process is a plus
  • Experience in the Bootloader, OS layer, driver layer or middleware development is a plus.
  • You will report to the software competence manager for the product line.
