Senior Firmware Architect Application & Audio

NXP wants to grow the Business Unit Personal Health, headquartered in Leuven, to capture the strong market growth specifically in IC’s for use in Hearing Aids and Implants, Hearables, Wearables and Personal Health monitoring applications.

Our team develops the full software development kits for our leading-edge IC products.  Our System-on-Chip products employ the latest Bluetooth Smart (BLE) and other ultra-low power technologies.  We develop the full SW stack from driver-level all to way to turnkey applications, which enables our customers to develop their final products with minimum effort. Owing to our success our team of 40 Engineers is growing and we have an opportunity for a senior embedded firmware architect (application and audio).

Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for the architecture, design, development of software/firmware for ultra-low power Bluetooth Low Energy chipsets targeting hearable (truly wireless earbuds) applications.
  • You will perform your architecture work as part of a larger architecture team (analog hardware, digital hardware, firmware and software).
  • You will determine the required HW/SW interfaces in close consultation with the IC architect and hardware experts & you influence the design decision at HW level to ensure the best system performance.
  • Your focus area will be the overall system & application architecture as well as the audio subsystem.
  • You provide technical leadership through participation in every phase of a project, from requirements, architecture, design, coding, unit testing, integration, maintenance and reviews.  You provide technical guidance to other team members and mentor new team members to ensure high quality software and an efficient software development process in your team.
  • You will be leading a team of around 8 engineers and will work hand-in-hand with the SW project manager in defining the technical work breakdown and the resulting planning of the project.

Your Profile

  • Masters in EE, CS or related disciplines with about 7-10 years of experience in real-time embedded software/firmware development (to include 3-5 years in architectural design)
  • Demonstrated people and technical leadership capabilities in the role of architect.
  • Experience with developing consumer audio products on embedded systems is a strong plus.
  • Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy (Smart) and/or other wireless networking standards (WiFi, ZigBEE) is a plus.
  • Proficiency with using C on embedded platforms
  • Good coordination and problem-solving skills and ability to meet tough goals under pressure
  • Quality minded with an eye of improvements in way of working
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English
  • Development experience across multiple software layers is a strong plus.
